Modern women living in megacities in Southeast Asia are increasingly exposed to a host of environmental aggressors and modern pollutants that can trigger skin sensitivity. To limit the consequences of UV rays and impurities such as haze, smog and even fragrances, Physiogel recently launched the Daily Defence range to help women counter the effects of living in megacities for more radiant, less sensitive skin. As previously mentioned in my Physiogel Daily Defence Launch post, this range is designed to strengthen the skin’s natural moisture barrier and protect it from damaging free radicals, preventing clogged pores as a result of dryness and exposure to irritants.

Today, let me share a little experiment. Okay, I felt like I was in high school again while doing this and documenting every step. I had to unleash the scientist in me! Haha! Anyway, kidding aside, let’s see how effective the Physiogel Daily Defence Protective Day Cream Light SPF 15 is through this apple demo.

I’ll be using the following: Apple, Physiogel Daily Defence Protective Day Cream Light SPF 15, and a generic facial cream (brand X).

Procedure:

  • Cut the apple in half.

  • Take one half of the cut apple and spread one pump of the Physiogel Daily Defence Protective Day Cream Light SPF 15 on the inner surface.

  • Take the other half of the cut apple and spread the same amount of generic facial cream on the inner surface.
  • Leave both halves in the open for 30 minutes.

After 30 minutes, this is what they look like. The half with the generic facial cream looks a bit browner than the half with the Physiogel Daily Defence Protective Day Cream Light SPF 15. It’s a bit unnoticeable in the photo, but in person, it’s more evident. In fact, some of the parts I missed turned really brown.

So what actually happened in this kitchen demo? When an apple is cut, the introduction of oxygen to the open surface causes polyphenol oxidase (PPO) oxidation activity, which results in the apple browning.

But what happened when I added a layer of cream? Why is the half with a generic cream browner than the half with Physiogel Daily Defence Protective Day Cream Light SPF 15? This is because the latter contains an Antioxidant Complex, which works with the skin to neutralize the unstable and damaging free radicals formed due to environmental pollutants and aggressors. The Apple Demo shows how Physiogel Daily Defence Protective Day Cream Light SPF 15 helps slow the effects of oxidation. The apple is like our skin. When we use Physiogel Daily Defence Protective Day Cream Light SPF 15 everyday, it can protect our skin against oxidative stress – one of the leading causes of skin ageing.

Now that we’ve learned what Physiogel Daily Defence Protective Day Cream Light SPF 15 can actually do, don’t forget to #FaceTheCity everyday with a layer of protection on our skin!

I hope you enjoyed this mini experiment! Something new here in my blog!
