A few weeks ago, I was invited to join a painting session with Purefoods at Sip and Gogh in Kapitolyo. The very first time I tried it, I could still remember how stressed and scared I was. I was thinking, one wrong stroke and the entire artwork is ruined. Well, it was totally different this time.

In fact, look at me… all excited as the session was about to start!

The artist showed us what our group was supposed to paint that day. He guided us through out the session, showing us step-by-step how to create the sky’s gradient, realistic clouds, proper strokes for the trees, etc.

I took my time – no pressure. I just enjoyed every stroke, every moment, sipping and munching in between. I never really understood how painting can relax one person until that day. As I was creating the blue gradient and the clouds, I couldn’t help but feel a little bit nostalgic. It was probably because of the colors I was using and the food I was munching on.

By the way, they served various pica-picas using Purefoods Blue Line.

And every bite of Corned Beef, Chorizo Bilbao, and Vienna Sausage, made me miss home even more! I practically grew up eating these with my family. When I was a kid, I remember asking my mom to prepare Corned Beef and Vienna Sausage every breakfast – no miss! As if that’s not enough, I would always request our helper to prepare baon for me – Corned Beef with rice or Vienna Sausage with rice! And yes, my classmates would always ask for a bite or two because whenever I open my lunchbox, they could already smell my food. Our helpers cook it perfectly – with chopped onions and garlic and with a little water/oil, which tastes so good when mixed in rice! Aaaaah!!! And of course, I’ll never ever forget my ultimate favorite – Chorizo Bilbao! Being a fan of Spanish food, I always feel I’m in a Spanish restaurant whenever I grab a bite of Chorizo Bilbao. My mom would always ask our helpers to cut it in half and deep fry it. It’s simply the best!

As I happily remembered all these good memories, little did I notice I’m actually done with my masterpiece! Here it is…

The moment I saw the result, it really showed the emotions I had the entire time I was painting. The blues and whites and the play of shadows created a very nostalgic vibe. I felt a little melancholy because all the memories made me realize how much I miss my mom and my entire family. (I now live separately, that’s why.) On the other hand, I also reminisced all the happy stories we shared as we dined in one table, enjoying our saucy Corned Beef and crispy Chorizo Bilbao. As soon as I got home, I hanged the painting on my bedroom wall. It may not be a Picasso-like art, but the memories of this masterpiece make it worth more than any amount of money!
