Rootote Now In The Philippines

Whenever I visit Japan, I can’t help but notice the cute backpacks that the locals carry. They are not the usual skater backpacks. They look unique, at the same time, fit the street-style fashion of the Japanese. Finally, there is no need to visit Tokyo just to get hold of these fashionable bags! Rootote, the famous Japanese brand iconic for multi-functional totes and backpacks, is now in the Philippines. I recently visited its first branch located at the 3rd level of The Block in SM North Edsa. Let me show you around… Just to give a quick background, the...

OOTD: Breaking Fashion Rules

You have probably heard various fashion styling rules – what not to wear, how to mix colors, what accessories to put, and the list goes on and on. And I’m quite sure all of us have broken some of those “rules” at some point. Let me tell you a secret… I love breaking rules – when it comes to fashion, of course. Take for example this… They say black and brown can’t go together. I beg to disagree. Well, in this case, it is not exactly brown. It is tan, a lighter shade of brown that is a great...

Kipling 30th Anniversary

Happy 30th Anniversary, Kipling! Kipling Journey The Kipling Journey started in 1987 by Paul Van De Velde, Vincent Haverbeke and Xavier Kegels. The brand name came from the author Rudyard Kipling’s Jungle Book and the movie Out of Africa, that perfectly represented the fun and adventure associated with the spirit of the brand. To ensure that a playful spirit always shone through, the loveable furry monkey figure that accompanies each Kipling piece was born. Do you know that each season up to 80 unique monkeys in different colours are released, and each collection has its very own unique monkey named after a Kipling employee somewhere in the world, making each one a covetable collectible? Interesting, huh?! The crinkled nylon was created in the same year. It was a happy accident that during the dying process the materials overheated, leaving the nylon used in their design crinkled. Deciding to embrace the error, this textural effect has become a signature of Kipling’s handbag designs and has been used in the functional and durable bags ever since. In thirty years, Kipling has arguably become Belgium’s most successful fashion export. In the last decade alone it has collaborated on special collections with young designers from around the world. The brand continues to innovate and produce functional accessories that are of a high quality yet modern and fun. Kipling Spring 2017 Collection A few...

OOTD: Smart Casual for Summer

With Manila’s summer heat, light clothing is a must! It’s almost always tempting to wear our summer uniform — that is tank top and shorts. Agree? But sometimes, it’s just too casual. What if you need to dress up a little for a dinner date or an afternoon cocktail? Here’s a smart casual style idea for summer! If you read my ‘Easy Ways to Upgrade‘ post previously, I mentioned about wearing a cover up. But during summer, it’s not just possible especially if you expect to walk outdoors! Tip: Go for dressy, flowy tops! Here, I’m wearing an off-shoulder top with bow detail. The fabric is very light, which is definitely perfect for summer! During summer, I try to avoid trousers as much as I can. I can’t take the feeling of fabric clinging onto my skin. I cannot! The heat is already too much to handle. LOL! But if it’s light and airy as this, why not?! It’s even black, but I didn’t mind walking outside at 12nn. Haha! Pairing a flowy top and airy pants can have a tendency to look as if I’m drowning with too much fabric. The trick is to wear a pair of footwear that can make you look taller. I wasn’t in the mood to wear heels though since it was a whole day affair. I slipped on my trusty block-heel sandals instead....
