Cleansing is my non-negotiable when it comes to skin care. No matter how tired I am, I never sleep with makeup on.

Recently, Chanel launched different types of cleansers that promise to break down dirt, makeup, and pollution particles. I tried two of them: Chanel L’Huile Anti-Pollution Cleansing Oil and Chanel Le Lait Anti-Pollution Cleansing Milk-to-Oil.

These cleansers contain two marine active ingredients: Blue Micro-Algae, which helps protect the complexion from pollution, and Marine Salicornia Extract, which moisturizes and fortifies.

What are the differences between the two? Which one is for you? Which one is effective? Are they worth the splurge? All answered in my full review below!

Chanel L’Huile Anti-Pollution Cleansing Oil

Product Information: Chanel L’Huile Anti-Pollution Cleansing Oil

A cleanser with a silky texture, L’HUILE transforms into a soft lather upon contact with water and gently removes all makeup—even long-wearing and waterproof formulas—sunscreen and impurities such as pollutants. The complexion is soft, luminous and prepared for the next steps of your skincare ritual.

Pros

  • It smells so good!!! It’s a perfect way to end the day—very relaxing fragrance. This could be a downside to those who prefer scentless skin care products.
  • The oil is not too thick, making it easy to glide on the skin.

  • It effectively removes makeup—even those with waterproof formulas.
  • It doesn’t leave a greasy film on the skin after rinsing.
  • Upon contact with water, it transforms into a soft lather

chanel-philippines

  • It leaves skin radiant and supple.
  • It’s gentle. My skin doesn’t feel it has been stripped off with oil after using the cleanser. In fact, my skin feels moisturized without being sticky.
  • Rinsing off the oil is super easy!
  • For all skin types.

Cons

  • I wish I have more control with the product being dispensed to prevent wastage. Every push is one full pump—dispensing half pump, which I sometimes need, is not possible.

Tips on Chanel L’Huile Anti-Pollution Cleansing Oil

  • Dispense one to two pumps of Chanel L’Huile Anti-Pollution Cleansing Oil onto the palm of your dry hand.
  • Massage onto dry face in circular motions.
  • Add a small amount of water to emulsify and continue massaging your face.
  • Then, rinse thoroughly.
  • You can opt to skip this step, but I always double cleanse, especially when I use makeup. I follow up with a mild facial cleanser.

Product Information: Chanel Le Lait Anti-Pollution Cleansing Milk-to-Oil

A cleanser with a milky texture, LE LAIT DOUCEUR D’HUILE transforms into a silky oil to remove all makeup—even long-wearing and waterproof formulas—sunscreen and impurities such as pollutants. It leaves skin supple, radiant and prepared for the next steps of your skincare ritual.

Pros:

  • This has creamy texture that transforms to silky oil while massaging onto the skin. It’s my first time to try something like this!

  • I can easily control how much product I want to dispense.

  • It leaves skin soft and radiant.
  • If you are not into strong fragrance, this has lighter scent compared to Chanel L’Huile Anti-Pollution Cleansing Oil.
  • It doesn’t leave an oily film on the skin after rinsing.
  • Rinsing off the oil is super easy!
  • For all skin types.

Cons:

  • Since this has thicker texture, it doesn’t glide easily on dry skin at first. But once it transforms to oil, it’s easier.
  • It takes a while to remove waterproof makeup .

Tips on Chanel Le Lait Anti-Pollution Cleansing Milk-to-Oil

  • Dispense two to three pumps of Chanel Le Lait Anti-Pollution Cleansing Milk-to-Oil onto the palm of your dry hand.
  • Using your fingertips, massage onto dry face in circular motions. The cream “loosens up” and transforms to oil-like texture.
  • The longer you massage, the more effective it is breaking down makeup.
  • Add a little water to emulsify and to thin out the texture. I like massaging a little more before rinsing out everything.

  • Then, rinse thoroughly.
  • Double cleanse with your favorite facial wash, if you wish.

Cleansing Test

To test both cleansers, I swatched long-wearing foundation, liquid lipstick and waterproof product on my arm. The left side will be cleansed using L’Huile Anti-Pollution Cleansing Oil, while Le Lait Anti-Pollution Cleansing Milk-to-Oil will be used on the right.

Verdict on Chanel L’Huile Anti-Pollution Cleansing Oil and Le Lait Anti-Pollution Cleansing Milk-to-Oil

As mentioned earlier, cleansing is my non-negotiable when it comes to skin care, Although I love the feeling right after, it does not mean I really enjoy the process of removing my makeup. This changed when I first tried Chanel L’Huile Anti-Pollution Cleansing Oil. I’ve tried various cleansing oils and this is by far my favorite. I have to admit, I’ve tried others that could remove waterproof makeup and long-wearing liquid lipstick faster. BUT L’Huile Anti-Pollution Cleansing Oil has the right consistency, not too thick nor too runny, with the soft relaxing scent, making the cleansing process very therapeutic. In fact, I find myself taking my time massaging my face while inhaling the soothing scent.

For me, L’Huile Anti-Pollution Cleansing Oil and Le Lait Anti-Pollution Cleansing Milk-to-Oil have different uses. No doubt, L’Huile Anti-Pollution Cleansing Oil is my favorite, but I like using Le Lait Anti-Pollution Cleansing Milk-to-Oil when I have light makeup on—that is powder foundation and no waterproof makeup. Although it is not heavy duty enough to remove full makeup, as seen in my cleansing test above, it’s a great everyday cleanser if you do not wear a lot of makeup or if you simply want to take off dirt and pollutants.

I find both cleansers worth the splurge since aside from removing dirt and makeup, it protects the skin from stress caused by pollution. I also love how they leave the skin soft, supple and radiant, without any oily residue. Best of all, I can’t stress enough how relaxing they smell and feel as I massage the product onto my skin—perfect way to end my day! Bottomline: I’ve never enjoyed cleansing as much as I do now!
