Although I love sleep, it does not love me back as much. I normally sleep late and most of the time, I wake up in the middle of the night. This is why every time I read or hear about a product that can help me sleep, I’m always willing to try. Every now and then, I use those body creams or oils with Lavander scent to relax my mind and body. Usually, it works. But I’ve always wished I could put it on my face so I could really smell the Lavander. Wish granted! Dermalogica launched Sound Sleep Cocoon, a skin care that can help you sleep. Did it work on me? What are the other benefits of this product? Read on. I also shared my initial review below.
How important is sleep?
Sleep problems can affect health and quality of life. Aside from this, sleep is a crucial component for the skin’s recovery from the assaults of the day. Just a few nights of missed sleep can lead to dull skin and fine lines, and chronic sleep deprivation leads to dark circles and early aging.
Dermalogica Sound Sleep Cocoon Product Information
Dermalogica Sound Sleep Cocoon is a revitalizing treatment gel-cream that works with the skin’s natural overnight repair and recovery process to optimize the skin benefits of the sleep we do get, delivering glowing skin by morning.
Because skin is best able to absorb active ingredients at night, Sound Sleep Cocoon delivers active ingredients while you sleep to transform skin by morning. It also helps to infuse skin with essential hydration that’s lost throughout the day. Sound Sleep Cocoon™ is formulated with motion-activated essential oils to soothe senses with aromatherapy and promote deep, restful sleep for healthier-looking skin.
How does Dermalogica Sound Sleep Cocoon works?
Here are the main ingredients:
- Albizia Julibrissin Bark Extract (Persian Silk Tree) reduces signs of skin fatigue and restores vitality.
- Evodia Rutaecarpa Fruit Extract (Fruits of Wu-Zhu in traditional Chinese medicine) provides visibly radiant skin by morning and promotes a more refined skin texture.
- Kakadu Plum Extract, rich in antioxidant Vitamin C, is clinically shown to improve and brighten skin tone.
- Tamarindus Indicia (Tamarind Seed Extract) cushions skin, creating a nourishing cocoon of comfort for softer, more hydrated skin.
- French Lavender oil (with calming Sandalwood and Patchouli), encapsulated essential oil with motion-activated technology, soothes the senses with aromatherapy to help promote deep, restful sleep for healthier-looking skin.
How To Use Dermalogica Sound Sleep Cocoon
Smooth over face and neck as the last step in your nighttime regimen. Allow gel-cream to melt into skin overnight. I suggest applying this 30 minutes before going to bed to relax your mind and body and help you sleep soundly.
Dermalogica Sound Sleep Cocoon Initial Thoughts
First, let me talk about the unique packaging. I’m honestly not a fan of any packaging that needs to be twisted to lock or unlock. The pump does not have cover too so I’m afraid the nozzle can be exposed to dirt and bacteria. The good side of it though is that it does not come in the usual jar where I have to dip my fingers. The product inside is therefore protected from contamination.
The first time I pumped the container, I immediately smelled the Lavander scent. My initial reaction was, “Oh my, this is what I’ve been waiting for!” And yes, the first two nights I tried it, I fell asleep earlier than my usual. The Lavander essential oil is said to be motion-activated so the more you move while you sleep, the more you’ll smell it to keep you relaxed. But here’s the deal, as soon as I doze off, I don’t really consciously recognize any distinctive smell, unless I’m half asleep. The scent also seems to disappear once the product melts into the skin. So is it just a placebo? Honestly, I do not think so. For me, what helps a lot is the massage after application (to help release the essential oils) and the breathing technique (cupping the hands that have the Lavander scent over nose and mouth and breathing deeply for 3 seconds)
I like how the gel-cream is easily absorbed by the skin, without the sticky feel. The product is a nice supplement to add hydration to the skin. I wouldn’t recommend using it alone though, especially for those with dry skin. This should be layered on top of your favorite moisturizer.
In terms of its claim that it can revitalize the skin, I saw the difference how my skin looked brighter and glowing in the morning. To be honest, I was a bit skeptical about the fragrance since it might cause my skin to breakout. I do not really have sensitive skin until the past few weeks. But as said earlier, I’m willing to try anything that can help me sleep. And gladly, my skin reacted nicely to the product– no allergic reactions, irritations, or breakouts.
I would recommend Dermalogica Sound Sleep Cocoon if you are looking for a product that can help you sleep at night, at the same time, brighten and revitalize your skin. If you have sensitive skin though, I strongly suggest to do a patch test first since this product has fragrance from essential oils. Of course, if you are not fond of Lavander scent, this is not for you.
I have high hopes from this product. I would definitely include this in my night skin care regimen, especially to help me release anxiety and get a deep sleep. I’m also hoping that the Vitamin C in it can help lighten my blemishes from my recent breakout.
