How do you choose your footwear? I’m pretty sure a lot of you are like me- I choose based on style and comfort comes secondary. Bad I know, but a gorgeous dress must have that lovely stilettos. Sad to say, now I’m already feeling the bad effects of wearing 5-inch heels. I’m getting back and knee pains from time to time- reason why I prefer flats nowadays. Do you know that women have four times as many foot problems as men because of a long history of wearing high heels and/or pointy toe shoes? In some cases, foot ailments can be an early signal of more serious medical problems like arthritis or diabetes. This is what I learned during Dr. Kong’s press launch.

Shoes that we wear apparently have a substantial impact on the load on the knee joints, which can impair the quality of one’s life. A small abnormality in foot function can be the cause of and have a large impact on knee and other joints higher up in the body, causing pain and discomfort- exactly what I’ve been experiencing!!! 🙁

This is where Dr. Kong comes to the rescue. Honestly, I’ve seen Dr. Kong in and out of the country but not once did I attempt to check out their stuff. I’m sure I’m not alone when I say, most footwear that targets health and wellness can be boring in terms of style. It’s not what fashionistas would usually choose. I was so wrong. Uh-oh.

Let me just give you a very short background first about Dr. Kong. First of all, he’s not a person. Dr. Kong came from “Hong Kong”, where it all began. Mr. Raymond Ng founded of Dr. Kong Footcare in 1999 with a mission to educate the public on the importance of foot health. Since its inception, it has grown rapidly; having expanded to 62 retail outlets in Hong Kong, 70 retail outlets in China and now arrive on Philippines shores.

Here’s one more interesting fact that I learned from Mr. Raymond Ng. Most of us are actually blessed with healthy feet from the day we are born, but problems often arise with the development and abuse which we subject these feet to later in life by wearing inappropriate footwear. Footcare in the early formative years is vital to ensure that children grow with healthy feet, which may otherwise result in foot problems like flatfoot and rearfoot valgus (a condition in which the rear of foot tends to curve outwards at the ankle joint) as they move towards adulthood.

After that Dr. Kong event, I knew that change of lifestyle is a must- FOR ALL OF US!!! Well, being more focused on our health doesn’t necessarily mean sacrificing the looks. I, myself, was surprised when I saw Dr. Kong’s footwear. Check them out. Special thanks to Sarah Tirona for the photos! 😀

Dr. Kong shoes are around PHP 3,000. They can be a bit pricey but remember, these are specialized shoes that targets our health and wellness.

They even provide a unique “Check & Fit” foot examination service at no extra cost, to help educate customers about their feet condition, recommending and fitting their feet with the selection of suitable Dr. Kong’s standard insoles (applicable for most of the shoe designs) to fit into their choice of footwear.
