For a few months now, I’ve always been asked what I did to my hair and where I had it done. If you’re following me on Instagram (@lush_angel) or on Facebook (@lushangelblog), you’ve probably seen my hair transformations the past few months. And as promised in my OOTD: Highlights post, I’m going to share my hair transformation in detail. I’ve received a lot of compliments because of the magical hands of this man.
Way before I started this blog, I’ve always had 2 to 3 different colors on my hair. This was about 10 years ago and I’ve always had it done by Fred Penales at Hairshaft Salon. I had to stop though when I started getting hair projects for prints and tv commercials. If you’ve been a follower of my blog, you’ve probably seen how my hair transformed from brown to red and to black. Although I loved them, it wasn’t really my choice. Who would have thought that after so many years, Fred and I would meet again!
I visited Fred at Hairshaft Salon in Podium. I’ve always loved the hip vibe of this salon! Who wouldn’t feel young and beautiful in here?! The interior, colors, music, and staff all together bring me such positive vibes! 😀
Before trying out Brazilian Blowout, my hair was colored first. I’ll be doing a dedicated post regarding my hair color/ highlights since I’m sooo in love with my two hair transformations. They are just too pretty not to share! 😀
What is Brazilian Blowout?
Brazilian Blowout is a smoothing treatment that improves the health and condition of the hair by creating a protective protein layer around the hair shaft to eliminate frizz and smooth the cuticle.
I’ve heard a lot of horror stories about Brazilian Blowout, reason why a lot of people are scared to try. But come to think of it, why is it such a big hit in the US if it’s not that magical? For those who are not aware, Brazilian Blowout is a hair treament that tames the hair, which brings about the straightened effect. It’s not like rebonded hair, but more of a blow dried effect- which I love.
Now, why do some people get damaged hair after a Brazilian Blowout treatment? The answer is simple. It’s either the hair stylist isn’t experienced enough or they’re not using the real Brazilian Blowout. Hairshaft showed me that they’re using the real and original Brazilian Blowout set which costs thousands of pesos, reason why the service can be quite expensive. The set includes shampoo, masque and smoothing solution.
Candidates for Brazilian Blowout
Anybody who has frizzy, damaged and processed hair can benefit from Brazilian Blowout and it’s good for all hair types. Take note, you can have it done even after hair color or hair straightening treatment.
Brazilian Blowout Process and Price
It takes a lot of practice and experience to really master this service. After applying the treatment, hair is blowdried and ironed repeatedly to seal in the treatment. The ironing part can be very crucial as this is when hair can be damaged. You should only trust experienced stylist on this. Fred shared that he even trained abroad for this. The process is very much like a Keratin treatment. In fact, they are practically the same. It’s just branding, but I was told that it’s actually Brazilian Blowout that started all these.
The entire process of Brazilian Blowout is pretty quick. It lasted for just about 45 minutes to an hour.
Brazilian Blowout starts at PHP 4,500, depending on hair length.
Brazilian Blowout Result
It leaves hair smooth, shiny and frizz-free with body and bounce. This can last for about 3 months or it can even last longer if you use sulfate-free shampoo. For those who are wondering if it results to straighter hair, it depends. If you have wavy hair, this treatment can make your hair appear naturally straight. If you have curly hair, it will enhance the appearance of the natural curls and minimize frizz.
It took me a while to do this post because I wanted to know how my hair looks after a few months. Well, my hair is still very soft and tamed. It’s still a bit straight, as if I just went out of the salon. Although my hair was blowdried in these photos, it’s still straight and bouncy even when air-dried. You can actually see it in my OOTD photos or Instagram as I don’t really blow dry my hair unless I came out from the salon. Take note, I even tie my hair often. I just use shampoo without sulphate most of the time for the treatment to last.
Recommendation
Brazilian Blowout can be a bit pricey, but for me, investing on treatments is a must to keep hair healthy. I already went through a phase when I had excessive hair damage! And seriously, I don’t want to experience that ever again! After that, I realized how important hair treatments are. If you have minimal hair waves like mine, you can now save your hair from ironing or rebonding. Don’t abuse your hair. Sooner or later, it may give up on you. Instead of rebond, go for a Brazilian Blowout as it can treat the hair, at the same time, give that straightening effect that can last for months. It’s not super straight like relax or rebond though, so if you have curly or coarse hair, Brazilian Blowout’s straightening effect may not be too evident. Hairshaft stylists can give suggestions on what you can do to your hair. They make sure that when you walk out of their salon, you’ve got the hair that you’ve always dreamed of! 😀

Absolutely loving the natural look of the blowout! Does it effortlessly look like that when you wake up? 🙂
Hi Shari. Yes, it does. It’s a bit straighter when not blowdried. You can actually check my Instagram account too (lush_angel) to see how my hair looks on a normal day. I don’t blow dry at all. I just let it dry naturally. 🙂
woah, awesome seeing fred here! i think the last time i saw him was at his wedding @ tagaytay–years ago. he’s still looking spunky as ever, haha. you look great angela! the blowout suits you well. (:
i wonder how long are we going to enjoy the brazilian blowout? will last for 4mos? 6mos? or 8mos?
Hi! What shampoo/conditioner brand did you use after the treatment?
it can last for about 6 months but i really do mine every 2 months since it works as a hair treatment for me 🙂
I just use regular shampoo- Dove. Although it is advisable to use sulfate-free shampoo for the treatment to last longer… 🙂
Thanks for replying!!
how much did it cost you for your hair length?
Hi! About Php 7,500.
hello! i so love your hair and been planning to have a balayage and brazilian blowout treatment. yup, it’ll be very expensive and with that i wonder how much tip i should give for the stylist. im an average mom who’ll just go on a salon like BenchFix or Davids whenever i needed a haircut, or hot oil . so it’ll be my first time to go on a salon that a bit expensive, hehe. ^_^ thank you…
Hi! I guess 100 is okay. 🙂 Besides, the stylist is also the owner. 🙂 Btw, don’t forget to get a quotation first before you start with the treatments!
