No doubt, music (aside from chocolates… LOL!) fuels my workout! It helps me get pumped up, thus affecting the intensity of my workout. Therefore, it is really important for me to bring my earphones and my phone in the gym.
My problem? Wired earphones can be a bit of a challenge. It can sometimes hinder my range of movement and I get so conscious about the wires. Also, when using earphones for a long period of time, I feel a little discomfort around the ear area.
A few months ago, Aftershokz sent me this wireless bone conduction headphones. Sorry, it took me a while to write this review since I’m very picky when it comes to earphones/headphones as sound quality is very critical for me. When I opened the box, it says “Wireless Bone Conduction Headphones”. Honestly, I didn’t know what to expect since it’s my first time to try something like this.
Here are the items included in the box: headphones, adjustable tension band, micro-USB charging cable, reflective stickers, weatherproof storage pouch, and warranty registration card
My initial reaction was “how to use it?!” Well, it’s quite unique as the transducers rest on the cheekbones in front of the ears and not nested inside or covering the ears. It’s a revolutionary headphones with completely open ear design, built to deliver situational awareness, comfort and exceptional audio experience.
How it works? With bone conduction technology, mini vibrations travel directly through your inner ears, delivering dynamic stereo sounds without covering or blocking them. These wireless open ear headphones prioritize your safety, ensuring you’re always aware of surroundings.
Let’s first talk about the design. It’s definitely sleek as seen in the photos. I’m just quite conscious with its shiny finish since it’s scratch and fingerprint magnet. I also wish it’s compact or foldable. Although it has its own pouch, I have to be very careful when it’s inside my bag.
The location of the controls is perfect – I can easily adjust the volume or answer the phone with just a push of a button. Lastly, I like how Aftershokz Bluez 2S stays in place. It doesn’t fall down no matter how active I am.
It has great stereo sound – voices and tunes are clear. It has dual noise cancelling mics and reduced sound leakage. It also has impressive battery life. I don’t charge it every after gym session. It can last me about 3 gym sessions (which is a total of about 3 hours). For a bluetooth device, it’s quite long. Best of all, it’s water resistant! Of course, we need that!
Now, let’s talk about the unique headphone experience. Normally, I don’t like hearing my surroundings when doing something. I listen to music so I can concentrate and remove all distractions. This is why I was a bit skeptical at first when I read that it has an open ear design. I then appreciated its use, especially when running outdoors – for safety and calls on the road. I eventually got used to it in the gym as well since I’m more aware in my surroundings.
I won’t deny, it took me a while to get used to this kind of earphones but eventually, it feels liberating! I don’t get conscious anymore that it might fall. I’m actually thinking of using it even while I work or blog. As mentioned earlier, I normally experience discomfort when I use speakers that cover or nest inside my ears for over an hour. Since Aftershocks Bluez 2s is open ear, I feel more relaxed even when used for long term.
Aftershokz Bluez 2s Wireless Bone Conduction Headphones is available in 4 colors: Black, Neon, Red, and Green Metallic. It’s priced at PHP 4,990 and it’s available at Astroplus MOA, Astroplus Megamall, ROX BHS, and Technoholics.
