Imagine being transported to the English countryside — walking through meadows and fields, touching the soft grasses and dried hay and picking the wild flowers, surrounded by muted golds and greens.

This is the concept of Celine Roux, Head of Global Fragrance Jo Malone London, for the English Fields Collection. Having spent time in the English countryside, she has developed a fascination with the textures, ingredients and colors of grains and cereals and the harvest traditions in Britain.

Celine worked with master perfumer Mathilde Bijaoui (perfumer behind Myrrh & Tonka Cologne Intense and Green Almond & Redcurrant Candle and Cologne, which happens to be one of my favorite Jo Malone scent!) Mathilde’s approach to creating fragrance is by thinking of smells in textures and colors, which led to the creation of five scents that capture the essence of the English landscape.

I just had a first hand experience of being transported to the English fields at the launch of this collection. Just take a look of this room filled with fresh harvest…

I still can’t get over this brunch setup! Seriously, Jo Malone never fails to amaze me — quite evident in all my previous posts about the brand. Com’on, who wouldn’t? They turned a cafe into looking and smelling like the English countryside. WOW!

Jo Malone English Fields: Poppy & Barley

Rich red poppies dancing in the wind. Violet flowers, alive with colour. Fruity with blackcurrant. Cocooned by barley and bran. Softened with powdery notes of white musk.

Jo Malone English Fields: Primrose & Rye

Rolling fields dotted with primroses. Swaying softly on a spring breeze. Warmed by golden corn. Brightened with mimosa. On an addictive base of rye and vanilla. Filled with sunshine.

Jo Malone English Fields: Oat & Cornflower

Wholesome oats gathered from the field, fit for a hearty feast. Warm and delicious. Enlivened by vivid blue cornflowers and a hint of hazelnut. Complemented by an elegant vetiver base.

Jo Malone English Fields: Honey & Crocus

Mouth-watering honey, fresh from the beehive. Blended with the bright bloom of crocuses and English lavender. Sweetened with a dash of almond milk.

Jo Malone English Fields: Green Wheat & Meadowsweet

An English field at dawn, full of the joys of spring. Filled with young, green wheat. Crisp and fresh. Balanced with a zesty twist of grapefruit. Mingled with soft, white notes of meadowsweet.

My personal favorites are Green Wheat & Meadowsweet and Poppy & Barley. Green Wheat & Meadowsweet is in fact the crowd favorite during the launch. It’s the freshest among the five scents. I find it light, perfect for everyday. On the other hand, Poppy & Barley has that sense of softness brought about by White Musk, which most of the time I’m attracted to.

How about you? What is your favorite from the Jo Malone English Fields Collection?

Each 30ml Cologne is priced at PHP 3,950.
