Anyway, since a lot of you are asking through my Instagram (@lush_angel) about my thoughts on FOREO UFO vs UFO 2, I’ve decided to just share a full review of FOREO UFO 2. What’s the difference between the two? Is it worth the upgrade considering the price tag? I’ll answer all below.
In case you missed, I actually did a full review of the first version of FOREO UFO in THIS LINK. So just to give you an idea, FOREO UFO 2 basically does the same thing. It’s a facial treatment in just 90 seconds unlike your usual face sheet mask, which needs 15-20 minutes to ensure all ingredients are absorbed by the skin. So what is the difference of the FOREO UFO 2?
FOREO UFO vs. FOREO UFO 2
- Price. Well, this is the most obvious difference. Of course, when the first version was released, it’s the same price tag as UFO 2 now. As of typing, there’s a PHP 5,000 (about US$ 100) difference between the two.
- Led light therapy. Although UFO features mainly 3 (Red, Green, and Blue), UFO 2 has full spectrum LED light therapy. This means there are additional 5 light (White, Purple, Orange, Yellow and Cyan) wavelengths. Each color delivers unique benefits to the skin. Let me share them here as these will also be a deciding factor whether the upgrade is worth it.
RED– stimualtes the production of collagen and elastin to firm and lift skin.
BLUE– minimizes imperfections, fights acne-causing bacteria, and stabilizes oil production
GREEN– evens out skin tone, brightens dull complexions and softens age spots, dark circles and other discoloration
WHITE– longest wavelength and reachest deeper into the skin than any other color; tones and tightens the skin and reduces puffiness
PURPLE– combination of red and blue light that helps eliminate toxins, boost radiance, pacify inflammation and accelerate healing
ORANGE– eases sun damage and revitalizes skin for a healthy glow
YELLOW– soothes sunburn, softens rosacea, combats swelling and improves overall skin tone
CYAN– anti-inflammatory bluish green light that calms stressed-out skin; promote healing, reduce the size of swollen capillaries and block pain
Note though that you can also achieve a specific color using the original FOREO UFO through the manual mode or smart control. It has the same interface as the FOREO UFO 2, as seen below. All you need to do is click on the color you want.
BUT with the original UFO, there’s no ‘Custom-Mode’ treatment where you can choose the other 5 new colors. The ‘Custom-Mode’, which is available in UFO 2, makes it easier for the user as you just need to choose the color you want, treatment duration, and temperature. See interface below.
- Thermo-therapy. This mode preps and enhances skin’s absorption of the mask’s ingredients. Both versions of UFO have this technology, but FOREO UFO 2 heats 5x faster than the original. Also, I noticed UFO 2 can reach a higher temperature compared to the older version.
- Cryo-Therapy. Although this feature, which helps in shrinking the appearance of pores and puffiness, lifts and firms skin, is also available in the original UFO, the cool temperature that the device emits is a lot more noticeable in UFO 2. I actually mentioned this in my review of FOREO UFO: “Not really a “con” but more of managing expectations– when they say it has “Cryo-Therapy” mode, it’s not really ice cold. It’s more of the warmth on the device slowly disappears after the Thermo-Therapy mode.” When I tried FOREO UFO 2, I was surprised how the device became cool– not ice-cold though but still way cooler than the original UFO’s Cryo-Therapy mode.
These are the main differences. Other features of the original UFO, such as the T-Sonic Power (stimulate blood microcirculation and better absorption of products, facilitating skin renewal) and mask choices are all in FOREO UFO 2.
FINAL THOUGHTS: What should you get? Foreo UFO or FOREO UFO 2?
Honestly, I’d be thankful to have EITHER FOREO UFO or UFO 2. Did you know that UFO stands for Ur Future Obsession??? And I definitely agree! For me, it’s the best facial home device I’ve tried as of writing. It’s close to having a facial treatment at the comforts of my home, especially now that I can’t really do my monthly facial at my chosen center. Plus, getting a facial treatment for just 90 seconds by using FOREO UFO/ UFO 2 means I can do it even on a busy day, unlike a sheet mask, which needs about 20 minutes of my time. Now, the questions— Do you need to upgrade your FOREO UFO? Or should you get a FOREO UFO or FOREO UFO2?
If you already have the original FOREO UFO and you’re happy with it, I would suggest that you stick with it. There’s no need to get an upgrade. Let me explain this further below.
Coming from a user of the original FOREO UFO, I didn’t see a noticeable difference on my skin when I switched to FOREO UFO 2. Note though that my skin problems can be addressed by the 3 led lights– Red, Green, and Blue, which are easily accessible in FOREO UFO.
Those with specific skin concerns, such as rosacea, sun damage, stressed-out skin, can reap the benefits of FOREO UFO 2 more since they can easily use the custom-mode to address their skin concerns. You can read on the benefits of each color above.
Although FOREO UFO 2 heats up 5x more, the original FOREO heats up pretty quickly too. The difference of the heat can be somehow distinguishable if you have the two devices, but I think this feature should not be a factor to get an upgrade.
With the cryo-therapy, the new FOREO UFO 2 does not feature an extreme temperature drop or it does not feel like “ice-cold” at least, which makes me say that it should not be the only reason to upgrade too.
Now, if it is your first time to purchase FOREO UFO, which one should you get? For me, it really boils down to the 2 main differences- the led light therapy and the price.
If you’re not into LED light therapy, if your skin just needs the 3 main colors (Red, Blue, and Green), if you’re not keen in using the custom-mode, or if you want to save a few thousands, FOREO UFO is good enough.
If you have specific skin concerns that need to be addressed and you want the ease and comfort of having a custom treatment with just a click, no doubt, go for FOREO UFO 2. And of course, if you have a few thousands of pesos to spare, of course, it’s nice to have the upgraded version.
